My first winter camping adventure. Why not? Lindeman Lake is a short, but challenging, 3.4km hike near Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park. A perfect pick for us beginner winter campers.

I had been out to Lindeman Lake earlier in the fall so I was familiar with the area. Everything is so different in the winter. So white and so peaceful. We made it to our site in about an hour and picked out our tent platform. The platforms weren't buried in snow, thankfully, as they are set back in the trees. We cleared off the ice and snow, and set up camp. Because it was early in the day, it was a perfect opportunity to string up the hammock. Yes, hammock. If you have never fallen asleep outside in the winter in a hammock, I highly recommend it...with a warm sleeping bag and perhaps a shot of Fireball to keep you warm!

After a little nap, it was time to fire up the stove and heat the water for our dehydrated dinner. Chicken and rice were on the menu tonight. Mountain House makes some great backpacking food that's fast and easy and most of it tastes great.

It was a chilly night, -8 degrees celsius, so we didn't stay up late. 7:58pm to be exact! the fresh air and vigorous exercise are sure to zap anyone's energy! That was the first night I discovered one of the BEST camping hacks ever. Fill your hydration bladder or water bottle with hot water and hug it all night to keep warm! Another thing I do to keep warm is bring a lot of disposable hand warmers. They are worth their weight in gold! However, please heed the warning on the package that says not to place directly against your skin! Just sayin' ...
